Business Night (April 6)

The Business Night is the grand opening of the EBT. The evening aims at broadening students’ vision by sharing inspiring stories. With prominent speakers and leaders in their areas of expertise, the Business Night is a unique opportunity to go beyond academic knowledge and get inspired by diverse leaders. The event will take place in the Auditorium of Tilburg University in the evening of April 6.

Due to the most recent developments with regards to the spread of the Covid-19 virus (Corona virus), we have decided to cancel the Business Night. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us!

The theme of this evening is:
‘Small but powerful: the success of the Netherlands’

Our country might be small in size, but this definitely does not hold us back. From the invention of the stock market in 1602 to the dikes and man-made islands that we build all over the world nowadays, our impact has always been present. Applying this perspective to the business world should give us interesting insights: why do big multinationals opt for a headquarter in the Netherlands? How do the Dutch influence the rest of the world? What are fields that we are particularly good at and why? We are thrilled to hear the exciting stories from leading figures of our society and have those and more questions answered by them!

The doors of the Auditorium will open at 18.30 and the program will start at 19.00 o’clock.

Program Information

Jean-François van Boxmeer (CEO Heineken International)
Jean-François van Boxmeer has been Chairman of the Executive Board and Chief Executive Officer of Heineken N.V. since 2005.
He joined the company in 1984 and, after three years as a trainee in production, sales and administration in Amsterdam, he moved to Africa. As Sales and Marketing Manager, first for Bralirwa in Rwanda and then Bralima in the Democratic Republic Congo (DRC), Jean-François helped to build HEINEKEN’s business in these two important markets. He was appointed General Manager of the DRC in 1993.
In 1996 he returned to Europe to become President & General Manager of Zywiec S.A. in Poland, and 3 years later was promoted to become Vice-President & General Manager of the newly formed Grupa Zywiec S.A, one of Poland’s leading brewers. In 2000 he was appointed General Manager of Heineken Italia Spa. In 2001 he was promoted to the Executive Board, with worldwide responsibility for supply chain and technical services, as well as the operating businesses in North-West Europe, Sub-Saharan Africa and Central and Eastern Europe. Since becoming Chairman of the Executive Board and Chief Executive Officer in 2005 Jean-François has overseen a period of significant growth with the company consolidating its position as the most geographically diverse brewer in the world, the largest brewer in Europe and the second largest globally.

Gerard Timmer (Managing Director NOS)
Gerard Timmer (51) is Director-General of the NOS, the organization responsible for providing independent and reliable coverage of news, sports and (inter)national events within the Dutch public broadcasting system. The NOS does so on all available media for all inhabitants of the Netherlands. Timmer was appointed on May 1, 2018: a new chapter in a media career that he started out as cameraman. In 1997, together with Bart de Graaff, Timmer founded a new public broadcasting organization, BNN, which he lead until 2005. After a brief stint at commercial broadcaster SBS, Timmer went public again as director of television at the NPO, the umbrella administrative body of the public broadcasting system in the Netherlands. Before his appointment at the NOS, Timmer was Director-General of another public broadcaster: BNNVARA. Timmer: “Reporting on news, sports and events is the very heart of any public broadcasting system. Every week, the NOS manages to reach 93 percent of the Dutch population with its radio, television and online productions. Being publicly funded, we do that as efficiently as possible.” Referring to the theme of this event: “The NOS is, besides our function as news organization, also from global significance. With host broadcasterships for many sports events, our expertise at great international events, and in particular in 2020: the production, coverage and international signal for the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam in May this year.”

Hans Honig (CEO Deloitte Nederland)
Making an impact that matters has driven a lot of the choices he has made in his professional life. He has always been energized by building high performance teams and developing talent. Before becoming CEO, he had many leadership roles in Deloitte such as Managing Partner Financial Services, Corporate Strategy Officer and many client leadership roles. Small but powerful for him stands for collaborating, working in ecoystems and increasing their innovation power. Mega trends will drive changes in the businesses and in the Netherlands as a whole. It will force us to connect to accelerate our impact on some of the big societal challenges.

Maurice Oostendorp (CEO De Volksbank)

Maurice Oostendorp is Chief Executive Officer of de Volksbank since 2015. Before joining de Volksbank, Maurice was CFRO of SNS REAAL N.V. Prior to that, he served as CFO and member of the Board of Directors at Coöperatie VGZ. Maurice began his career at ABN AMRO, where he held several positions, among them Director General Group Finance.

Sander Schimmelpenninck (Chairman of the day)
Sander Schimmelpenninck (1984) studied law in Rotterdam and Milan and worked as a lawyer in Amsterdam, this job didn’t fit him too well. Sander took a different approach and started as an entrepreneur in 2012. Since September 2013, he has been combining entrepreneurship with part-time editing at magazine Quote, where he was appointed editor-in-chief in November 2016. In 2018 Sander participated and won the Dutch TV show ‘De slimste mens’ (‘The smartest human’). As chairman of the day, Sander will be in charge of the evening.
